Speeches from and about Palestine
Together with Viirus Theatre, the Speech Karaoke Action Group is organising an evening dedicated to speeches from and about Palestine. Join us in listening and performing historical, contemporary, political and personal speeches about Palestine. We bring the speeches, you bring your voice!
We have curated a special list of speeches for this event together with artist Eugenie Touma van der Meulen: https://eugeniecarolina.com/
During the event, we will hear speeches from, for example, the UN special rapporteur Francesca Albanese, the late Palestinian-American academic and political activist Edward Said who coined the term Orientalism, and from activists who glued their hands on the statue of Lord Balfour in 2022. We also have speeches from some of the journalists who have been reporting from Gaza this year – Bisan Owda, Hind Khoudary and Motaz Azaiza.
This special event takes place on The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. This date is important because, on November 29, 1947, the United Nations proposed creating two states in Palestine. However, only the state of Israel has been established. This date is thus a reminder to the world that the international community has so far failed to guarantee basic human rights to the Palestinian people who never agreed to this division of their country in the first place.
This year, The International Day of Solidarity comes after a year of remarkable events – and important speeches from, for example, student encampments, the International Criminal Court, and the Pope calling for a genocide investigation in Gaza.
Warm welcome to everyone! The event is free of charge.
