The Master and Margarita

The Master and Margarita

Subtitled in English

“Mästaren och Margarita är ett visuellt och auditivt helhetskonstverk, en stark teaterupplevelse där skådespelarna gör ett intensivt arbete, både fysiskt och känslomässigt.” – HBL

“På Busholmen är uppsättningen nämligen alltigenom skådespelarnas teater.” -YLE

An urban fantasy about love, the devil and the free will

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name
But what’s puzzling you
Is the nature of my game

A dark, mysterious stranger with penetrating eyes and a peculiar entourage appears on the streets of Moscow. The stranger, who goes by the name of Professor Woland, takes on a city where man has created his own dreary hell on earth.

We are sucked into a society controlled by unpredictable bodies of power, where the bourgeoisie thrive on the misfortunes of their peers and a secret police force spread fear among its citizens. Authors and critics sell out to become regime-sympathising fellow travellers, poputchics, and city officials disappear without a trace. Something must be done.

Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita is a grandiose settlement of scores with mandacity and cowardice. Viirus celebrates its 30th anniversary in autumn 2017 and is thrilled to launch its presence at Busholmen with one of the most captivating literary classics of all time. The Master and Margarita will unite various Viirus generations with talented and internationally recognised director Egill Pálsson to inaugurate our brand new theater hall.[/ezcol_3fifth] [ezcol_1fifth_end]'[/ezcol_1fifth_end]
